About the Department

Information Technology program started in 1998 in this college so as to meet the rapidly expanding demand for graduates with interdisciplinary skills for application across the whole range of computer and information based industries. A graduate study was introduced in 2024 in the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

Information Technology program was started in 1998 with an intake of 40 seats, so as to meet the rapidly expanding demand for graduates with interdisciplinary skills for application across the whole range of computer and information based industries. Information Technology is arguably advancing at a faster rate than any other technology in history. Later intake increased from 40 to 60 in the year 1999-2000, 60 to 90 in 2000-2001, 90 to 120 in 2006-2007 and 120 to 180 in 2024. The department is also running M.Tech(AI & DS) course from 2024 with an intake of 06. The Bachelors degree in Information Technology is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, five times during 2007, 2012, 2017 and 2021, 2024.

The program emphasizes on creative thinking, ability to critically analyze and synthesize issues for scientific observations, decision making and to solve problems, improve communication, interpersonal and other soft skills to successfully work-in multidisciplinary teams. Skills are developed through a combination of both knowledge development and practice study of courses with a competence emphasis. The department provides state of art computing facilities to the students through well equipped labs.

The labs have clusters based on Microsoft 2012 Enterprise, SME Server, Ubuntu Server configured with software such as C, C++, Visual C++, Visual Studio .NET, Visual Studio 6.0, JDK 1.8.0, Star UML, Apache Tomcat, Oracle 8i and Oracle 9i developer. Labs are also equipped for data warehousing and data mining activities. The computer center is fully air conditioned with adequate UPS backup and has internet facilities through 2 Gbps 1:1 dedicated Internet leased line for wired and wi-fi with 66 access points and 40 Mbps NMEICT dail up connection with BSNL .

Alumni is well settled in esteemed positions in MNCs like Google, Microsoft and Amazon. Many students are pursuing post graduation in prestigious institutions. Large numbers of students are placed in reputed companies like TCS, CSC, CTS, INFOSYS, INTERGRAPH, Amazon, Darwin Box, and etc. Experts from industry and institutions visit the department contributing to the enhancement of the department. Together, the staff and students are a cheerful and lively group with the sole object of continuous learning. The Department has a vibrant student body numbering about 648.

The department library has prescribed and reference text books according to the syllabus. Currently the department library has 542 books. The department library is in possession of foundation series material produced by Infosys Technologies Ltd. The library also has software user manuals produced by IT majors such as IBM, CISCO etc.

The program is handled by 3 Professors and 7 Associate Professors and 18 Assistant Professors. The competency, eagerness and enthusiasm of Faculty are reflecting in the quality research publications. 6 Faculty members are pursuing their Ph.D from various universities. UGC has sanctioned Rs. 10,25,000/- (Rupees ten lakhs and twenty five thousand) under Major Research Project Scheme. The Bachelors degree in Information Technology is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of ALL INDIA COUNCIL FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION (AICTE).

HoD's Message

The Department of Information Technology envisions Global Excellence and Local Relevance in Teaching, Technology Development, and Research. Established in 1998, the Department initially offered a B.Tech program, and later introduced the M.Tech program in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science in 2024. Our goal is to train students to become competent and motivated engineers and scientists.

The undergraduate curriculum is designed to provide flexibility, enabling students to specialize in advanced areas. A combination of compulsory and elective courses allows students to tailor their academic journey. With computing being inherently interdisciplinary, students are encouraged to pursue a diverse range of interests, whether related or unrelated to their major.

The department currently boasts a dedicated faculty of 28 members, covering almost every domain within Computer and Information Sciences. Today, we are proud to support a vibrant community of about 500 students.
