ABOUT

The main objective of the meet is to nurture and strengthen the innate talents of the budding computer & information techies by providing a forum to exploit their talents in technical reporting and soft talents. The event promotes team work skills, organisation and management skills besides creating a common platform for the students to explore their latest skills.

Computer Science and Engineering

         The R.V.R. & J.C. College of Engineering introduced the undergraduate program in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) in 1994. Since its inception, the department has grown exponentially in the areas of student intake, quality of academic work and student achievements. The initial student enrollment was 30. Since then, the B.Tech programme has seen a gradual increase in the student enrollment, and current annual intake stands at 180. Taking the needs of the academic institutions and the industry into cognizance, the department of CSE started M.Tech programme in the year 2003. The current annual intake for the M.Tech programme is 25. This programme helps to enhance the quality of the academic atmosphere in the department.
         The department has excellent infrastructure to support the teaching learning process. More than half of the class rooms of the department have the integrated computer-assisted teaching systems. The faculty of the department utilizes these systems to deliver lectures effectively. A new training facility named E-class room was developed in the year 2009. The E-class room is one of a kind training facility capable of hosting 75 participants at a time and has one dedicated computer terminal for each participant. The latest equipment required for video conferencing and remote lecture delivery are available in the E-class room. The department of CSE also maintains the MOODLE, the learning management system for electronic distribution of lecture material, online references and question papers. The learning management system, MOODLE is also being used by the faculty members to conduct online examinations.
         The department has modern laboratories to serve the teaching and research needs of the students and faculty members. The laboratories of the department have substantial computing resources that include the latest hardware and software. The laboratories are equipped with the computers of latest configuration procured from MNCs. All the laboratory computers are connected to the campus network using hi-speed Fiber Optic Local Area Network. A dedicated leased line provides round-the clock Internet access to all the laboratory computers. The department also maintains a dedicated lab for improving the communication skills of the students.
         The department strives towards delivering quality education to the students. This fact is attested to by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The department of CSE received accreditation from NBA for 3 times during 2002, 2007 and 2012. The department invites experts from premiere educational institutions and the industry to conduct seminars / workshops on the advanced topics in Computer Science.
         The department presently offering
                 4-year B.Tech degree programme in Computer Science & Engineering and
                 2-year M.Tech degree programme in Computer Science Engineering .

Information Technology

Information Technology department was started with UG program in 1998 with an intake of 40 seats, so as to meet the rapidly expanding demand for graduates with interdisciplinary skills for application across the whole range of computer and information based industries. Information Technology is arguably advancing at a faster rate than any other technology in history. Later intake increased from 40 to 60 in the year 1999-2000, 60 to 90 in 2000-2001 and 90 to 120 in 2006-2007. The department is also running M.Tech(CST) course from 2013 with an intake of 18. The Bachelors degree in Information Technology is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi twice.
The department provides state of art computing facilities to the students through well equipped labs.The labs have clusters based on RedHat linux 5.0 Enterprise Server, Microsoft Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition, Microsoft 2008 Enterprise edition, Suse/Ubuntu Linux, SME server configured with software such as C, C++, Visual C++, Visual Studio .NET, Visual Studio, JDK, Visual FoxPro, Rational rose software, Tomcat , Oracle 8i and Oracle 9i developer. Labs are also equipped for data warehousing and data mining activities. The department has over 210 Intel core2duo, Intel core i3 and Intel core i7 processors, which are fully networked with latest hardware and software. Computer centers are fully air conditioned with adequate UPS backup and 45 MBPS leased line internet facility.
A good number of university ranks are secured by the students of Information technology every year in the university examinations and alumni is well settled in esteemed positions. Many students are pursuing post graduation in prestigious institutions. Large numbers of students are placed in reputed companies like TCS, CSC, CTS, INFOSYS, INTERGRAPH, and etc. Experts from industry and institutions visit the department contributing to the enhancement of the department. Together, the staff and students are a cheerful and lively group with the sole object of continuous learning. The Department has a vibrant student body numbering about 500.
On regular basis, Department of IT in coordination with departments of CSE is conducting CIS'SOIREE, a National Level Technical Students Meet for the last 15 years. Around 300 to 400 participants from all over India are actively participating in this event.
The department has 3 Professors, 4 Associate Professors and 30 Assistant Professors. The competency, eagerness and enthusiasm of Faculty are reflecting in the quality research publications. 7 Faculty members are pursuing their Ph.D from various universities. AICTE has sanctioned Rs. 5,00,000/- (Rupees five lakhs) under MODROB scheme for establishing a unique VOIP laboratory and UGC has sanctioned Rs. 10,25,000/- (Rupees ten lakhs and twenty five thousand) under Major Research Project Scheme.

Computer Applications
The Department of Computer Applications started functioning from 1995 and is offering Masters Degree in Computer Applications. The Department of Computer Applications started with 60 seats in 1995-1996 in MCA, later intake increased from 60 to 120 in 2007-2008. In the culturally and intellectually rich environment of R.V.R & J.C. College of Engineering, the department educates thinkers who do and doers who think broadly and strategically about problem solving metHODs and process that manipulate transform information through computers. By providing a rigorous formal education while allowing a maximum intellectual flexibility and diversity, the department equips its students with know how for technical innovation and vision for leadership. The department has modern laboratories to serve the teaching and research needs of the students and faculty of the department. Substantial computing resources that include high end servers with 500 MNC branded systems and all the necessary licensed software, giving students a diversity of experience in Operating Systems are exclusively provided for the department. All systems are fully networked within the department and to the campus using High End CISCO Switches and Fiber Optic Cables. Currently, 40Mbps leased line internet connectivity is provided by B.S.N.L. The department has mail server which provides mail accounts to all students and staff of the college. Laboratories will upgrade and modernized from time to time. These facilities are maintained by the department staff of programmers and technicians. The skills associated within teams are learnt and assessed in individual projects. Post graduate research is strongly encourage through seminars, projects, theses and through the different guest lectures given by the experienced people from industry and academia.

App Development

One of the more popular forms of coding in recent times is the creation of applications, or apps, that run on mobile devices like phones and tablets. You probably use a range of different apps in your everyday life. Wouldn't it be cool to create one of your own?. This contest aims to provide students with additional competitive activities in the field of computer science. By competing, students would focus on developing their technical and social (team) skills.

Guidelines:

Students are invited to compete individual or in teams of up to two student members.
Any B.Tech or M.Tech/MCA students can compete.
Multiple teams can be formed from the same College/University.
Each team can submit only one application.
One student can be part of 2 different teams (i.e. one designer can create design for two different teams).
Teams must adhere to the deadline timetable defined on website, or else their submissions will be invalid.
Teams must not accept or use any help from people not in their team.
Usage of free and/or open source Internet resources is allowed, but plagiarism and cheating is not.

Registration

YOUR TEAM MUST complete their registration for the Proposed App Development on or before February 12^th, 2017. Send mail to [email protected]

The names and contact information for each group member.
The name and contact information of your adviser.
Information about the College you attend.

Develop your app idea

YOUR TEAM MUST choose a problem that exists in the world to try to solve using technology.
The best problem to choose is one that is relatable to lots of people or helps a group of people in great need.
YOUR TEAM MUST identify who this app is meant to help.
The best people to target are people who have access to, and would want to use, this technology.
YOUR TEAM MUST describe how your app will function and how it helps the problem.
YOUR TEAM MUST describe the app in less than 200 words.
The best descriptions will be completed ahead of time and thoroughly checked errors before submitting.

Judging Round One

Judges will look for originality, creativity, ability to effectively solve the problem, and the app's target audience.
The initial judging panel will be comprised of professors from the Departments of CSE, IT and MCA.

Results

Results from Round One of Judging will be intimated to you through your mail address, Top 20 teams will Webcast on or before, 15th February , 2017.

Your next steps
Teams chosen to move on to the second round of judging on campus will need to create a mock-up of their app. Teams will need to develop a poster for judges to review during the poster session. At a minimum, posters should include:

The name of the app
Problem the app solves
Audience the app targets
Visuals to demonstrate the look and feel of the app

Third Round of Judging
1. The top 3 teams will be required to present their app to the judges, their mentors, and an audience of people attending.
2. There is no one way to present your app. Students are welcome to create videos, power points, prezis, you name it! At this level teams will be judged holistically on the quality of their app, the problem the app solves, and their presentations.

Teams will be making a 5 - 7 minute presentation in which they should
1. Describe the target audience.
2. Describe the process of developing the application.
3. Describe the application, its functions, and features as well as how the application address the problem identified in the proposal.

Judges will assess each team on the following elements:
1. How well the application meets the need of the target audience.
2. Originality and creativity of the application idea.
3. Professionalism of the team presentation.

Each round will carry a maximum of 10 points. (30 total points)

Invincible of Soiree

The objective of this event is to test the candidate's awareness about the recent happenings, logical ability, rapidness (spontaneity), creativity, and approach towards the given situation, communication skills, involvement & justification for a solution. Thus bringing out the person with stuff. Finally the winner of this event is given the title "THE INVINCIBLE".
The event goes with 4 rounds.

Round 1: TICKLE UR QUEST - Test ur cognizance

Online test on current affairs, aptitude, logical reasoning.
Intake into second round: approx 15.
And 2 wild card entries are promoted for next round.(15+2).

Round 2: KSHANIKA - Avoid me to get through
Single word is to be chosen by each participant on the spot.10 sec of time is given to prepare. The participant has to deliver the content relating to the word but not using the word. Max 1min time given.
Ex.: 'Music' is the word selected
The content may be like: "I love playing guitar, from my childhood my father taught me playing keyboard. But I am interested in guitar... & so on.
(For 60 sec with no breaks)

Meaningful content
Continuity
Time delivered

Intake into next round is 08 & 2 wild card entries are promoted. Total 10 promoted to next level.

Round 3: Salt 'n' Pepper - Related the unrelated
Two Unrelated words will be given for each participant. The participant has to deliver the content relating both the words.10 sec of time will be given to prepare. Max.1 min of time to talk.
E.g.: Car and Bubblegum.
Today's child is no doubt fond of cars. So to make their business the manufacturers are making Bubble gums in the shape of cars. Naturally the sales of Bubblegum increase... & so on.

Judgment Criteria:

Creativity
Continuity and
Frequency in the usage of given words.

Intake into next round 6 and No Wild card Entries.

Finals:
COCK A HOOP - An Ultimate Triumphant
Finals contain 3 internal rounds. No round is an Elimination round.

IR1: SMRITHI - Rack ur brains
7 questions will be fired at each participant at a time and all questions should be answered at a stretch within given time slot in order.
Judgment Criteria:
No. of questions answered in order within given time slot.

IR2: LEAD INDIA - Break the ice
General Issues which are defective in the evolving of India as a developed nation are taken. The participant should give the best possible solution for the Crisis. The issues are given by hand before 3 min to the participants.

IR3:DEVILS ADVOCATE - The haunt begins....

This is a Mock Press round. Participants are asked to involve in a character. And the characters are given beforehand. Along with the Jury, an Acting Press will be involved in the Judgment of this round.

Involvement of the participant in the character.
The logical & Spontaneity.
Justification to questions asked.
