MICROPROCESSORS & MICROCONTROLLERS LABORATORY

LAB IN-CHARGE: Ms. N.Chaitanya
LAB TECHNICIAN: Sri R.Maruthi Vara Prasad
LABORATORY AREA: 112 sq. meters

The majority of people think that computers are some kind of complicated device that is impossible to learn and infinitely intelligent, able to think better than a person. The truth is much less glamorous. A computer can only do what the programmer has told it to do, in the form of a program. A program is just a sequence of very simple commands that lead the computer to solve some problem. Once the program is written and debugged (you hardly ever get it right the first time), the computer can execute the instructions very fast, and always do it the same, every time, without a mistake. And herein lies the power of a computer which is the microprocessor. Microprocessor is a computer central processing unit on a single chip. It contains millions of transistors connected by wires. This microcomputer will have a CPU, memory and I/O interfaces, timers, ADC/DACs etc. This component is called a Microcontroller. This micro computer will have so many applications in communications, consumer, automotive, military, industrial and medical.

This is a well equipped laboratory which contains 8086 micro processor kits, computers, 8051 micro controller kits and some interfacing kits(keyboard, DAC,ADC, stepper motor, traffic lights). The student will get through understanding about assembly level language programs, understand how to interface serial and parallel I/O devices with a microprocessor(8086) and micro controller(8051), write code to process exceptions and interrupts, and understand the instruction set and architectures of the micro processor(8086 and micro controller(8051).
